Everyone loves meatballs.... I always try to come up with different versions and sauces to mix it up. In here, I added mushrooms and some lemon zest and it turned out to be delicious......

  • 1 lb of ground beef
  • 1/2 lb of ground pork (or italian sausage meat)
  • 1 shallot, minced
  • 1/4 tsp of nutmeg
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp of flour
  • 1 tbsp of oil
  • 1/2 cup of chicken stock
  • 1-2 tbsp of cream
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 bunch of Cremini mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tsp of lemon zest

In a mixing bowl, combine the meats, shallot, salt, pepper and nutmeg.

Form 1 inch balls, should make 15-18. Cook them in a frying pan until a nice crust forms all around and cooked through. Place the meatballs on a plate, cover with foil and let it rest for a few minutes.

In the same  pan cook the mushrooms for 2-3 minutes. Add some oil in the middle and mix with the flour until it becomes a thick paste. Add the stock and mix on medium heat scraping the brown bits from the meat in the pan... When it starts bubbling add the lemon zest, the cream some salt and pepper and replace the meatballs back just to heat them through again.

Serve with rice or mash potatoes
